Meet The Trainer

Principal Instructor and Trainer at GDM is George Middlemiss. 

George has worked with dogs all of his life and during his Police Career he seized the
opportunity to join the ranks of the Dog Unit where he trained and handled German
Shepherds and Belgian Malinois for Patrol Dog and Specialist Support Roles. He also
trained handlers operating Spaniels, Labradors and Pointers in Specialist Search roles. In
2000 he was appointed as Officer in Charge of Dog Training, supervising six instructors
responsible for training over 70 dogs in various specialist skills. He also implemented and
managed the Police Dog Breeding and Puppy Development Programme and wrote a
comprehensively detailed Police Dog Training Manual. George has worked with Dog
Trainers and Handlers in the UK, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Slovakia and the U.S.A. 

George thrives upon identifying and solving canine behavioural problems, an area that
he finds challenging and fascinating. Above this he has enjoyed coaching and training a
multitude of service and civilian handlers and their dogs. He is an ACPO Accredited Dog
Training Instructor (retired), a member of the BIPDT, the BPSCA and a NASDU Approved
Instructor for Security Patrol Dogs and Specialist Search Dogs, Since 2013 he has held
the post of Instructor and Examiner for Government Contracted Specialist Search Dog
Teams engaged on Counter Terrorism Deployments.
